ALAN SCHRECK, Ph.D., is a professor of theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio and the author of numerous books, including Catholic and Christian, The Essential Catholic Catechism, Catholic and Christian for Young Adults, Vatican II: The Crisis and the Promise, and The Compact History of the Catholic Church. Dr. Schreck and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of five children.
