"Records of the Borough of Leicester 1603-1688" is an essential primary source collection that documents the administrative, social, and economic life of Leicester during one of the most transformative periods in English history. Covering the years from the accession of James I through the Glorious Revolution, this volume captures the evolution of municipal governance and the impact of national turmoil on a local scale.

The work provides a detailed compilation of archival documents, including council minutes, financial accounts, and legal records. These entries offer vivid insights into the daily operations of the borough, from the regulation of markets and trades to the management of civic order and the resolution of local disputes. This collection illustrates how the town navigated the complexities of the English Civil War, the Interregnum, and the Restoration.

For historians, researchers, and those interested in the Stuart era, this work serves as a vital resource for understanding provincial life in 17th-century Britain. It highlights the persistence of local traditions amidst shifting political landscapes, making it a cornerstone for studies in Leicestershire history and the broader development of English urban centers.
