Neuware - In 'The Red Ledger', Frank L. Packard delivers a gripping tale of justice and retribution set against the backdrop of the early 20th-century criminal underworld. The story follows Charle Stave, a man who maintains a mysterious red ledger-a meticulous record of every individual who has ever done him a kindness or a grievance. Determined to balance the scales of his life, Stave embarks on a series of calculated missions to repay these debts, whether through acts of unexpected benevolence or cold-blooded vengeance. As Stave navigates the shadows of society, he encounters a diverse cast of characters, from desperate souls in need of a savior to hardened villains deserving of their fate. Packard, a master of the pulp thriller and creator of the famous Jimmie Dale, weaves a narrative filled with suspense, moral complexity, and high-stakes action. Each entry in the ledger becomes a catalyst for a new adventure, testing Stave's resolve and his unique sense of honor. 'The Red Ledger' stands as a definitive example of classic crime fiction, exploring the thin line between legal authority and personal justice through the eyes of one of the genre's most intriguing protagonists. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
