Faith refined by fire is of greater worth than gold—and stronger than grief.
Dr. Noah James has it all: a promising pediatrics career, unshakable faith, and a twin brother, Nate, who's been her anchor since birth. But in one devastating moment, her world shatters. Nate is killed by a drunk driver the same day she loses a young patient. In her grief, Noah's faith crumbles to ashes.
How can she save her patients if she can't save herself?
Consumed by guilt and rage, she pushes herself to the breaking point—literally. When exhaustion, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance cause her heart to stop, she finds herself in a place that’s impossibly beautiful, undeniably real. There, she sees her brother and a little girl she couldn’t save. Radiant. Alive. Perfectly at peace. But Nate won’t let her stay. He insists the God she stopped believing in still has plans for her life… including forgiving the man who killed him. Cryptic messages for the people he left behind only deepen her disbelief.
Because Charlie Ray Groves deserves peace too.
Back in the world of the living, Noah is haunted by what she experienced. Was any of it real, or just her dying brain’s last desperate illusion? As she recovers, she’s drawn to Kade, the ER doctor who helped save her life and seems to want her in his. Are love and romance possible? And at the hospital, there’s Corbett, an enigmatic young man with Down syndrome who appears whenever she needs hope most.
When Noah finally confronts Charlie Ray, she discovers he’s not the monster she imagined but a broken man drowning in guilt. Then she uncovers secrets—and betrayals—that change everything she thought she knew about that terrible day and the people she loves most. She’s forced to choose between the justice she craves and the grace she’s been called to give.
Some forgiveness comes at a price. Some comes as a gift. And sometimes, it’s the only thing that can heal a broken heart.
Set against the mountains of southern West Virginia, Refined by Fire is a powerful story of faith tested, love discovered, and the mysterious ways grace appears in our darkest moments. Perfect for readers who loved When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin and The Edge of Belonging by Amanda Cox.
A story of heartbreak, healing, and long country roads back to the place where grace and forgiveness feel like home.

Descrizione dello Store
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
