It is not the least of the author's hopes, that his labour may serve, in a humble measure, in the further development of the already very high appreciation of our wonderful scenery, and in the culture of the pop ular love of that charming Art - which is, at the same time, its interpreter and its chronicler - the Art of the Landscape Painter, from the more legitimate study Of which he has turned aside, in leisure hours, to this ao cessory toil. And it is as such an accessory to the province of his own profession, rather than as a trespass upon the fields of the sister art of letters, that he thus ventures to exhibit his work.
