Let author Jane Struthers take you on a visit into the world of the British royals. Divided by area and with a locator map of London at the front of the book, Royal London reveals the fascinating history and stories behind over 130 buildings, parks, gardens, statues and other objects in London that are associated with royalty, fully illustrated with specially commissioned photography. Sections include: *Westminster, including Buckingham Palace, Birdcage Walk, and Spencer House *The City, including St. Paul's Cathedral, Temple Bar, Ireland Yard *Piccadilly to Hackney, including Queen Street, National Portrait Gallery, and Trafalgar Square *Marble Arch to High Gate, including Regent's Park, Queen Square, British Library *South London, including Lambeth House, Greenwich Park, The Royal Observatory *Day Trips from London *And much more! Loaded with photographs of people and places, it celebrates the defining influence of British Kings and Queens on the cultural, social and architectural landscape of London over the last two millennia, featuring grand, world-famous sites of royal importance, such as Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London, as well as lesser-known locations and monuments. Blending well-known history with little-known stories and anecdotes, Royal London offers a deeper insight into the colourful regal characters and the legacies they left behind, lending renewed interest to obvious places of royal significance and awakening interest in forgotten monuments to the monarchy. This edition in a handy new format is a timely celebration, published before the Queen's jubilee in 2012, and containing new features on William and Kate's wedding as well as profiles on each of the royals.
