The Savvy Diabetic: A Survival Guide (Paperback or Softback). Codice articolo BBS-9780989638500
The Savvy Diabetic: A Survival Guide is a collection of tips, tools, and techniques, borne out of experiences and mistakes and lots of on-the-job learning. After 43 years as a Type 1 diabetic, I had successfully and deliberately avoided hospitals. I was suddenly confronted with my worst fears: an emergency appendectomy 3000 miles away from my home. I was terrified of losing the control of my diabetes which I had worked so hard to maintain. I was woefully unprepared. Wow, did I learn!Five years later and several more hospitalizations and doctors’ appointments, as well as many experiences with travel and just life, I wanted to share what I have learned, hoping my insights and experiences will help you to:~ Live well and in balance with diabetes~ Survive the medical system as a person with diabetes~ Feel validated in your feelings about this disease~ Have more tools to help support someone you love who has diabetes~ Smile and even laugh about your own experiences10% of net proceeds will be donated to JDRF (Improving Lives, Curing Type 1 Diabetes), InsulinPumpers.org, and University of California, Irvine Center for Diabetes Treatment and Research.
Informazioni sull?autore: Joanne Laufer Milo, a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 11, and a native New Yorker, has a BA in psychology and mathematics from Union College in Schenectady, NY, along with an MBA in marketing from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She spent many years in marketing, particularly in new technologies (her favorite was in the field of artificial intelligence). After many years in the corporate world, she started an exercise, aerobics, and yoga business, figuring that making money while exercising would be a healthier way to live. She even had the fun privilege of working for Richard Simmons in his Anatomy Asylum Studios in Los Angeles. Joanne currently shares her life and love with Richard, her husband, whom she met when she placed a personal ad in the local newspaper, and their two joyful pups. The dogs are named Hey Buddy, a Westie (whose middle name is I’m Busy), and Bon Bon, the sweetest Lhasa Apso. Joanne is blessed with loving friends and feels great joy and gratitude when she is able to share and help others in coping with this devastating disease. She has been volunteering with Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDRF) since its inception in the early 1970s in NYC and is now involved with the JDRF Tightrope T1D Outreach Committee, as well as Girls’ (and now Guys’) Night Out, a local support group for Type 1 diabetics and their significant others in Orange County, CA.
