Peace is a brittle dream, constantly battered by the guns of war that seek to shatter it.
Forty years ago: Astria, a magical and deadly continent across a vast ocean, was discovered, shaking the foundations of power across the old world. Wild and untamed by day, the night twists and corrupts any living thing foolish enough to be caught out in its forests. Settlers flocked across the sea to seize the powerful and strange ores deep in its soil, and the wars of the old world followed.
Now: A fragile peace holds across the island colonies off Astria’s shores, but a brutal murder and the theft of vital research threaten to upset the balance and reignite the fires of war.
Three unlikely people may decide the fate of this new land:
Rachel, a former revolutionary and head of Intelligence for the fledgling Alderian colonies, struggling to keep the fragile peace from shattering.
Ben, a spy in the twilight of his career, hot on the trail of the murderer and determined to prove he can still be a potent weapon for the government he’s given his life to.
And Shaunna, a young scientist thrown into the middle of it all, racing to make sense of what was stolen and the mysteries of the continent’s dark and deadly forest before it’s too late.
Step into a thrilling, suspenseful flintlock fantasy adventure full of action, espionage, political intrigue, and magical science.
