This is the 1949 edition published by San Francisco: The Book Club of California. It contains a leaf from the original 1527 work; while that page has some water damage in the upper right hand corner the damage DOES NOT reach the leaf from the year 1527. Truly remarkable book. Printed in red and black throughout in Rudolf Koch's Bibel Gotisch type on French handmade paper. Has a bookplate of the former owner on the inside front end paper. Photos can be sent upon request. An interesting account of William CaxtonÕs successor, Wynkyn De Worde, and his masterpiece, The Golden Legend, the first printed book in English to contain any portion of the Bible. The Golden Legend includes the Pentateuch and much of the Gospels. It was the principle source of the Bible in English until the first English Bible was printed a century later. Quarto.
