Printed in red and black on French handmade paper. 1 vols. folio. The original Wynken de Worde leaf in this copy is folio XIX, from "The passyon of our lorde". Disbound and Dispersed 100 Original quarter cloth and decorated boards. Specimen leaf torn on a diagonal with small loss at bottom corner, touching 14 lines. Fine Seven devices of Wynkyn de Worde reproduced in text and one on the title page. Decorative initials by Zena Kavin. Printed in red and black on French handmade paper. 1 vols. folio. Hardcover. Condizione: Poor. No Jacket. This beautiful edition is deeply discounted due to some water damage on the cover and some of the pages. Other copies range from $425 to $625. This is the 1949 edition published by San Francisco: The Book Club of California. It contains a leaf from the original 1527 work; while that page has some water damage in the upper right hand corner the damage DOES NOT reach the leaf from the year 1527. Truly remarkable book. Printed in red and black throughout in Rudolf Koch's Bibel Gotisch type on French handmade paper. Has a bookplate of the former owner on the inside front end paper. Photos can be sent upon request. The original leaf is tipped to page [V] and is in near fine condition. with some minor age-toning. An interesting leaf book, printed in red and black, with an account of the life and works of Wynkyn de Worde, including two pages of examples of his printer's marks. The original leaf is from de Worde's 1527 printing in English of the Golden Legend. The leaf is from the "The Lyfe of saynt James lesse" and is printed in two columns. An interesting account of William CaxtonÕs successor, Wynkyn De Worde, and his masterpiece, The Golden Legend, the first printed book in English to contain any portion of the Bible. The Golden Legend includes the Pentateuch and much of the Gospels. It was the principle source of the Bible in English until the first English Bible was printed a century later. Quarto. [6], 14, [4] pp. Seven devices of Wynkyn de Worde reproduced in text and one on the title page. Decorative initials by Zena Kavin. Printed in red and black on French handmade paper. Quarter terra cotta linen over decorative boards, paper labels on front cover and spine. Spine slightly faded with minor wear to spine label. With typed letter on the Book Club of CaliforniaÕs stationery, signed by its officers, stating that the present work was published in order to finance the remodeling of the clubÕs headquarters, laid-in. A fine copy in the moderately worn original plain paper dust-jacket which is unevenly sunned and has some chips to the spine panel. § 375 copies printed by the Grabhorn Press. The leaf is folio CCCXIX The Lyfe of Saynt Alexis and is particularly nice for having an annotation in a 16th or 17th century secretary hand in the upper margin. Wynkyn de Worde was Caxton's right-hand man and successor, who, after Caxton's death, ran the press for another 40 years, expanding the range of books published and producing over 400 titles.
