This history of visual man's communication follows the evolution of this most basic and essential form of written contact from the most primative indicators to the development of the written word as it is now known, covering the differeing forms this has taken in various periods and among different racial groups. First published in Germany in 1935, a revised edition appeared in 1958 with this third revised and enlarged edition 1970. This edition translated from the German by George Unwin.
