Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

No stated date but a catalogue at the end of the book is dated September 1898. New and enlarged edition, second issue. Title-page, 72pp., frontispiece portrait of Hertz, 32 text figures, and a 32-page publisher's catalogue. Sir Oliver Joseph Lodge (1851-1940) was an English physicist whose investigations into electromagnetic radiation contributed to the development of radio communication. He identified electromagnetic radiation independent of Heinrich Hertz's proof. At his 1894 Royal Institution lectures ("The Work of Hertz and Some of His Successors"), Lodge's demonstrations on methods to transmit and detect radio waves included an improved early radio receiver he named the "coherer". His work led to him holding key patents in early radio communication - his "syntonic" (or tuning) patents. This volumes contains (up to page 35) the Notes of the Lecture delivered by Dr. Lodge before the Royal Institution on June 1, 1894. The notes have been revised by Dr. Lodge, and prepared for publication. after page 35, a series of Appendices, &c., are given. The book is bound in the original ochre cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards and a small patch of scraping to the cloth near the middle of the fore edge of the front board. The cloth on the tips of the bottom corner is worn with a little damage and the spine ends are bumped with a little bit of damage to the cloth. The contents are tight and clean with some scattered but mostly light foxing (pages 46 and 47 and the endpapers are more heavily affected). Sixteen of the pages have notes, underlining and a few diagrams, very neatly written in purple ink. A few of these pages have fairly extensive notes and others it is limited to a little underlinging. The front endpapers are split down the spine gutter.
