Uncover the powerful potential that learning disabilities can conceal!Smart But Stuck: Emotional Aspects of Learning Disabilities and Imprisoned Intelligence, Revised Edition is for individuals with the problem, their families, friends, and teachers. It is also for psychotherapists, educators, school social workers, medical personnel, people dealing with prisons, etc. It helps those who struggle with learning disabilities (and the people who help them) build self esteem, face LD obstacles, bypass weaknesses, and enhance strengths. Combining research and twenty case studies, this important book discusses why and how intelligent individuals with learning disabilities are misunderstood and how shame and fear can lead to imprisoned intelligence. Smart But Stuck elaborates on new research about imprisoned intelligence and the emotional consequences of learning disabilities, enabling you to:
- understand what it's like growing up being smart but feeling stupid
- understand what happens when smart people grow up suffering from learning gaps
- understand the connection between self-development and frustrated potential
- understand the emotional fallout caused by imprisoned intelligence
- recognize clues pointing to possible learning disabilities and what to do about it
- read a historical review to see how learning disabilities were handled in the past
- learn how self-psychological theory can explain imprisoned intelligence
- learn how constructive and destructive shame influence learning
- learn how to find a therapist and what to expect in treatment
- learn how to live with learning disabilities for a successful, productive life and even use your learning disability to your advantage
Smart But Stuck integrates a vast amount of research and presents it in an understandable way so you can help people gain their freedom from imprisoned intelligence, or gain this freedom for yourself. With Smart But Stuck, you will find effective methods to help individuals with learning disabilities unlock their full potential.
