Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

This book is designed to accompany the second edition (copyright 1967) of the Teacher's Edition of the mathematics textbook "Modern Introductory Analysis." While it does not necessarily provide an answer to every single exercise in that book, it does at least provide a reference to them, and does provide an answer to each exercise that requires more than one step to solve. The publisher, Houghton Mifflin Co., released the textbooks-both the Student's and the Teacher's Editions-in hardcover format, but the solution keys as softcover books. This 1970 imprint (per the copyright page) is a substantial 364 pages long. The short foreward to this book makes it clear it was written by teachers, for teachers. The first sentence says, "The purpose of this Key is to make the teacher's work easier." "Modern Introductory Analysis" was designed for an advanced high school mathematics course, referred to by some as pre-calculus but, regardless of the nomenclature, meant to form a bridge between secondary school and university for mathematically inclined students. The foreward implies teachers should not take it too much to heart if their students are able to solve the problems and exercises but not, on their own, explain those solutions in the same expansive detail provided by the authors. Those explanations are there if particularly zealous students are ready for them, but otherwise, "[T]he degree of detail in the solutions is not to be taken as a standard for students. The amount of detail required of students should depend upon the nature of the class and upon what will benefit students most." It's as if the team of authors know both the excitement of teaching the next bunch of Alan Turings and the slog of teaching teenagers in the sixth period class on Fridays in the spring-often in the desks next to the mini-Turings-and want the teachers/owners of this volume to know they're on their side. We are listing this as in "Good" condition because of the state of the covers alone; the text block is in excellent condition. The front cover in particular shows considerable wear and soiling though it is not at all in a fragile state. Rubbing has left scuffs along the joints where the panels meet the spine and there is a 3/8-inch closed tear at the joint where the front panel meets the base of the spine. The bottom right corner of the front cover was folded over in the past and left a crease mark. There are some stray black pen marks at the middle of the fore edge of the cover, and "1970" has been written in black ink at the top right corner. The back cover also exhibits soiling and wear, but not to the same degree as the front. The text block, however, is in flawless condition, with no torn, folded, loose, or missing pages. There are no marks at all, not even the name of a previous owner, inside the book, and the pages are still very bright considering their age. The binding is quite tight and square, unusually so for a softcover book 56 years old. Photos are forthcoming or available upon request.
