[From front jacket flap] A comprehensive sewing manual compiling advanced construction techniques and finishing methods contributed by leading mid twentieth century fashion designers. This is the first time famous designers have shared their dressmaking secrets with the public. The best tailoring is found in high fashion where price is a secondary consideration to quality in construction and fabric selection. Spadea decided that there was no better authority for sewing information than the top designers themselves. Sixteen designers were found who were willing to cooperate in the production of this sewing manual. This was born the first and best "post graduate" course in sewing on the market place. Contents include: Editorial - Needling your way to smartness on a budget; Designers biography; Dust and cut; A pressing matter; How to handle a delicate drifter; The golden chain; Why an underlining; A fitting short cut; A tip for interfacings; The iron on fabrics; The hidden buttoning; Decisions, decisions, decisions; Face the facing; The tailor's slip stitch; Cover up for a collar; Sizing up a button; The jeweled button; About buttons; How to keep snaps under wraps; Sparkle plenty; The chain tack; Strap holders; Diminishing darts; The perfect match; On eliminating darts; Perfect pleats; Only a rose; Leaf; Which width; Loops and buttons; The banded sleeve; A proper miter; Angles on trimming; Smocking; Slot seams; The twirly skirt; Square wide and handsome; Soft shoulders; Continuous thread dart; Plaid mad?; Reinforcing the button; The flexible placket; About lace; More about lace; Back stitching; Hemming pleated skirt; Sleeve problems; Stretch fabrics; How to lower the bustline on a pattern; Undersew; The great bond issue; Rounding the edges; Waistband wonder; Camisole top; Knotty problems; Expanse is expensive; The vinyl analysis; Lined to the edge; To trim or not to trim; Setting in sleeves; Button holes in a band; The skin game; The three size figure; Altering - the rounded back; Narrow shoulders; Non-shift seams; Baggy bondeds; Fur: cleaning and cutting; Fur: joining and finishing; Double face; Some cutting remarks; More cutting remarks.
