Rey (born Hans Augusto Reyersbach; September 16, 1898 - August 26, 1977) was a German-born American illustrator and author, known for the series of children's picture books that he and his wife Margret Rey created about Curious George. He and his wife fled Paris in June 1940, carrying the Curious George manuscript. They received visas through the Portuguese consul in Bordeaux, which enabled them to leave Europe via Portugal. The first Curious George book was published in New York by Houghton Mifflin in 1941. Rey's interest in astronomy began during World War I and led to his desire to redraw constellation diagrams, which Rey found difficult to remember, so that they were more intuitive. This led to the 1952 publication of The Stars: A New Way to See Them. His constellation diagrams were adopted widely and now appear in many astronomy guides, such as Donald H. Menzel's A Field Guide to the Stars and Planets. The Stars: A New Way to See Them is an astronomy book by H. A. Rey. It was first published in 1952 (Houghton Mifflin, Boston) and revised in 1962. It was updated again in 1997. In this book, Rey set out to create a graphical, simpler view of the constellations that created a more realistic depiction of the images the constellations were supposed to represent. this book offers a unique perspective on stargazing and the wonders of the universe. This is the go-to guide to the stars for beginners and experts alike. With clear, readable text, easy-to-follow diagrams, and a sprinkling of H. A. Rey's irrepressible humor, The Stars: A New Way to See Them gives sparkle to the constellations and makes the mechanics of the universe intelligible to even the novice astronomer. This is a clear, vivid astronomy reference book. As Learning Through Literature puts it: "The Stars: A New Way to See Them is a great introduction to astronomy. It's readable and easy to understand. But don't assume it's light on details. Not a bit! This reference book has 100+ pages packed with information. It's filled with illustrations of the constellations, our solar system, and the universe. You could easily use it as a spine for an astronomy study or as a reference throughout the year when questions come up." Enlarged World-Wide Edition [stated]. Sixth printing of this edition [stated].
