Paperback. The signal came back. So did she.Autumn, 1996. Sam Hadley, twenty-one, works the graveyard shift at a satellite monitoring station forty miles east of Albuquerque. Most people avoid that shift. She volunteered. She has the kind of ears that tune past the stations, into the spaces between them, and the desert at night is where that feels almost normal. Then ECHO-7 wakes up. A Cold War satellite, silent for five years, dead on every registry that admits it existed. What it transmits isn't telemetry. It's a memory. The face in the memory is hers.Sam should report it. She doesn't, because she can understand the signal, and that's the part she can't explain to anyone. Pulling the thread means learning why a dead program still has a paper trail, why the paper trail has holes in it, and why somebody at the station has started watching the night tech who asks. The question isn't what ECHO-7 is broadcasting. It's who.Set in the cold blue glow of CRT screens and high-altitude starlight in the autumn of 1996, Static opens a sci-fi mystery thriller for readers who tore through Recursion and Dark Matter and were sorry when they were over.Book One of the Dead Signal trilogy. The trilogy runs to midnight, December 31, 1999. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.…
