Neuware - 'The Story of the Savoy Opera in Gilbert and Sullivan Days' provides a comprehensive and engaging chronicle of one of the most significant collaborations in the history of English musical theater. Written by S. J. Adair Fitz-Gerald, this work delves into the origins and evolution of the legendary partnership between librettist W. S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. The book offers an insider's perspective on the creation of the world-famous Savoy Operas, including beloved masterpieces such as 'The Mikado,' 'The Pirates of Penzance,' and 'H.M.S. Pinafore.'Beyond the music and lyrics, Fitz-Gerald captures the vibrant atmosphere of the Victorian stage, detailing the management of Richard D'Oyly Carte and the construction of the Savoy Theatre. Readers will find rich accounts of the original productions, the performers who brought these whimsical characters to life, and the cultural impact these works had on late 19th-century London. This historical account serves as both a scholarly resource and a tribute to the enduring wit and melody of the Gilbert and Sullivan legacy.
