Paperback. "Summary of Investigations Relating to Grammar, Language, and Composition" is a comprehensive scholarly survey that synthesizes educational research concerning the teaching and learning of the English language. Authored by Rollo La Verne Lyman, this work provides a meticulous analysis of numerous studies that shaped early 20th-century pedagogical approaches. It addresses fundamental components of the language arts curriculum, ranging from the mechanics of grammar to the complex processes of written composition and verbal expression. This volume serves as a significant historical reference for educators, linguists, and curriculum specialists. By reviewing various experimental studies, the work documents the transition toward a more scientific evaluation of student performance and instructional efficacy. It examines critical themes such as the diagnosis of language errors, the functional application of grammatical rules, and the psychological foundations of literacy development. As a foundational text in the history of English education, "Summary of Investigations Relating to Grammar, Language, and Composition" offers deep insights into the evolution of literacy standards and teaching methodologies. It remains a vital resource for understanding the academic efforts to professionalize and refine language instruction within the modern classroom. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
