God does not merely know history. He rules it.
Biblical prophecy is one of Scripture’s strongest witnesses that God has spoken, that His Word cannot fail, and that history moves under His sovereign authority. Systematic Theology Volume 18: The Doctrine of Biblical Prophecy examines prophecy not as speculation, sensationalism, or newspaper interpretation, but as divine revelation given by the God who declares the end from the beginning.
This book is written to work well in two ways. It can be read as a complete stand-alone study of biblical prophecy, giving the reader a serious, Scripture-centered examination of prophecy, fulfillment, Israel, Daniel, Messianic prophecy, Jerusalem, the Day of the LORD, and the promises still awaiting completion. At the same time, it is intentionally designed as Volume 18 in the 24-volume Systematic Theology: Scripture Defines Scripture set, building on the larger series method that Scripture must define its own words, symbols, covenants, promises, fulfillments, and doctrines.
Readers do not need to have read the earlier volumes to benefit from this book. But those following the full set will see how the doctrine of prophecy connects naturally to the doctrines already developed in the series: Scripture, the character of God, covenants, Israel, the kingdom, biblical symbols, and the certainty of God’s revealed Word.
Using a Scripture-interprets-Scripture method, this book traces major prophetic lines across the Bible, including:
the nature and purpose of biblical prophecy
true and false prophets
prophetic time and near/far fulfillment
Israel’s warnings, exile, scattering, preservation, and restoration
Babylon’s seventy years and the decree of Cyrus
the fall of Samaria, Jerusalem, Babylon, Nineveh, and Tyre
Daniel’s world empires, Alexander the Great, and Antiochus Epiphanes
Daniel’s seventy weeks and the exact timing of Messiah’s presentation
the virgin birth, Bethlehem, the triumphal entry, the suffering servant, the pierced Messiah, and the resurrection foretold
the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple
the new covenant and the outpouring of the Spirit
the valley of dry bones and Israel’s future restoration
the Day of the LORD and the prophecies still awaiting completion
This volume carefully distinguishes between prophecies already fulfilled historically, prophecies visibly unfolding, and prophecies still awaiting their appointed completion. It avoids reckless date-setting and modern speculation while refusing to blunt the plain force of Scripture’s prophetic promises.
Whether read on its own or as part of the full 24-volume systematic theology set, this book calls the reader back to the authority of God’s Word. Fulfilled prophecy is not merely evidence for the mind. It is a call to faith, worship, repentance, holiness, and confidence in the God who cannot lie.
The same God who foretold Babylon’s fall, Israel’s exile, Cyrus’s decree, Messiah’s suffering, Christ’s resurrection, and Jerusalem’s destruction will also fulfill every promise that remains.
The prophetic Word is sure.
