Riassunto

Systematic Theology: Scripture Defines Scripture
Volume 19 — The Doctrine of the Kingdom and the Glory of God

The King, the Throne, the Nations, and Life Under the Reign of Christ

What does Scripture actually reveal about the future Kingdom of Jesus Christ?

Not merely the fact that Christ will reign—but what His reign will look like.

Where will the King rule?
Who will inhabit the Kingdom?
How will Jerusalem, Israel, the nations, worship, justice, family life, labor, trade, and creation itself function beneath His authority?

In Volume 19 of Systematic Theology: Scripture Defines Scripture, Jeff C. Edwards presents a comprehensive, Scripture-governed study of the future, visible, earthly reign of Jesus Christ. Written from a literal, premillennial perspective, this volume allows the Bible to define the Kingdom through its own promises, covenants, prophecies, distinctions, and descriptions.

Rather than treating the Kingdom as an abstract theological concept, this book leads the reader into the actual world Scripture describes. It traces the arrival of the King, the establishment of His throne, the restoration of Israel, Jerusalem’s place as the capital of the Kingdom, the righteous government of the nations, and the ordered life of mortal people beneath Christ’s rule.

This volume examines:

Christ as the promised King and Son of David
the visible establishment of His earthly Kingdom
restored Israel and the tribal inheritances
Jerusalem as the center of government and worship
the place of glorified saints and mortal Kingdom inhabitants
the administration of justice and the protection of the weak
the Millennial Temple of Ezekiel 40–48
priests, Levites, sacrifices, feasts, and sacred worship
the river flowing from the sanctuary
houses, cities, roads, work, agriculture, trade, and abundance
marriage, children, health, and extraordinary longevity
peace and knowledge among the nations
the blessing of animals, land, water, and creation
mortal sin beneath perfect government
Satan’s final release and the last rebellion
the Great White Throne
and the Kingdom’s continuation into everlasting glory

The book carefully distinguishes between Israel and the nations, the church and the Kingdom, glorified saints and mortal subjects, the Millennium and the eternal state, and Christ’s present heavenly authority and His future visible reign upon the earth.

It also addresses difficult questions often neglected in Kingdom studies. Why are sacrifices present after Christ’s once-for-all offering? How can sin remain possible under perfect government? Why must children born during the Millennium still personally believe? How can the final rebellion occur after a thousand years of peace? And how does Christ’s thousand-year reign continue into the Kingdom that will never end?

Throughout the volume, Scripture remains the final authority. Prophetic promises are not spiritualized away, Israel is not replaced, and concrete biblical language is not redefined to fit a theological system.

Designed to stand on its own as a thorough biblical study of the Kingdom, this book also forms part of the larger twenty-four-volume Systematic Theology: Scripture Defines Scripture series.

The Kingdom is not an allegory.

It is the promised rule of a real King, upon a real throne, over real nations, in a restored world filled with His glory.

The King is coming. His Kingdom will be established. And of His reign there will be no end.
