French novelist and playwright Alexandre Dumas was a key figure in Romantic theater; his most famous works are The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo.

Informazioni sull?autore: Alexandre Dumas was born in 1802, the grandchild of a French nobleman and Haitian slave. Brought up in poverty, he quickly made his fortune writing plays. An industrious writer, Dumas tried his hand at most literary genres, though it was his historical novels chiefly The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte-Cristo which, with their mélange of adventure, intrigue and adultery, confirmed his celebrity. Having participated in the 1830 Revolution, Dumas built himself a chateau, fathered numerous illegitimate children, and enjoyed life as a pillar of the Parisian literary and social scene.
