'You can't go too far wrong if you call The Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, the most famous, the most important, and the most beautiful, illuminated manuscript in the world.' - The New York Times. The Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry is the finest surviving and one of the most magnificent, exquisitely detailed manuscripts of the 15th century. Crafted by hand around 1410 for the Duke of Berry, a prominent figure in France, this Book of Hours is known as a masterpiece of International Gothic art. It combines intricate naturalism with imaginative, vibrant compositions across 206 vellum pages. Created by the Limbourg brothers, its renowned calendar section features breathtaking month-by-month scenes that foreshadow the work of Jan van Eyck and the generations of outstanding 15th-century painters in the South Netherlands. Following a meticulous restoration, this rare treasure will be displayed at the Musée Condé in Chantilly. For the first and likely only time, visitors will have the opportunity to see the iconic calendar pages unbound and fully restored, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the awe-inspiring beauty and historical significance of this unparalleled medieval masterpiece. - Die New York Times.
