Quarto. Softcover. Grey wraps with color illustration, with blue and gilt lettering; 80 pp.; richly illustrated. Text in English, with some Japanese. "Kita ji Rosanjin (1883-1959) has long been hailed as one of the greatest ceramists of the twentieth century. While he forged a remarkable career, it was not without first crossing paths, and even colliding, with many of his contemporaries who were themselves renowned ceramic masters: Arakawa Toyoz , Fujiwara Kei, Kaneshige T y , Kat Tokur , Kawakita Handeishi, and Koyama Fujio. TRADITION REDEFINED re-examines the legend of Rosanjin and places his oeuvre in dialogue with works by these other mid-century masters, some of whom were indispensable to the advancement of Rosanjin's outsized reputation, and many of whom are still relatively unknown in the West today. Based around a core group of over thirty of his works, this is the first significant exhibition of Rosanjin in New York in nearly fifty years." -- Publisher's website, viewed November 3, 2021. Good+ (Wraps are lightly worn/scufed/smudged; textblock edges are lightly worn/scuffed/smudged; small red private-ownership stamp on half-title; interior is clean; binding is solid.).…
