Poetry. "Geoffrey Movius's TRANSIT gives us a world lived in by taking heart in it, with feeling intelligence of detail, of share, of syllable and measure, of compassion, humor, and wry self-awareness, and in the face of all pain, loss, and passing, affirmation, always on. The very exactitude of the registration and making, and its quiet lyric epic reach, itself confirms and renews: Henry James's the sense of having lived, Ezra Pound's news that stays news, Robert Duncan's news of another life. Each of the five sections could stand on its own as a book&;together, and in their timbres of movement and location, they call out to one another, as the poems to one another, as to us, beyond their sum, and we can enter, roam, and return, whenever and however we wish, always welcomed, again and again, and thus led onward. Such deeply humane and caring work is vitally needed ever, but never more profoundly than today."&;Kenneth Irby

"Here behold a rich harvest of vivid deftly crafted poems, sensuous, of earth, the seasons, and the human complexities of too swiftly passing time, its plangencies."&;Gerrit Lansing

"With relaxed, welcoming urbanity, Movius's extraordinary first book of poems shows scope, gusto, a lifetime's insights. Themes abound in poems of nature, weather, old and new friends, at home and abroad; birds in Gloucester's waters; insects; the body in pain and in health. Movius has bided his time and made an impressive contribution to the poetry of his generation. The reader&;in a flourish of light, color and sound imagery&;is transported to a kind of Neue Galerie for mind and eye, where Movius's apprehension of a world brims with experiences celebrated and understood."&;Stephen Sandy
