Paperback. "A Transverse Polyconic Projection for General Maps of Canada" is a specialized technical treatise focusing on the mathematical and geographical foundations of cartography in the early 20th century. Written by C.-O. Senecal, this work explores the specific application of the transverse polyconic projection for representing the vast and varied landscape of Canada. The volume provides a detailed examination of the geometric principles required to minimize distortion across large longitudinal spans, a challenge particularly relevant to Canadian mapping. It includes mathematical analysis and methodologies intended for professional geographers, surveyors, and cartographers of the era. As a historical scientific document, it reflects the rigorous standards of geodetic science and the evolution of territorial representation. This work serves as an essential reference for those interested in the history of Canadian surveying, the technical development of map projections, and the scientific legacy of mapping the northern reaches of North America. Its focus on precision and utility makes it a significant contribution to the field of mathematical geography, offering insight into the tools used to define and visualize the Canadian wilderness and settled regions alike. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible.
