They are observable indicators of structural pressure - the forces that keep producing the same fires regardless of how hard the owner works, which systems get installed, or how much experience accumulates. The framework maps those forces across four structural systems and three issue groups, giving the owner a diagnostic lens rather than another action plan.Inside the book, readers will find: The Fatal Snapshot(TM) - a six-question structural assessment that places any business in one of eight profiles, from At-Risk to Fully OwnedThe three Operational States - Survival, Scale, and Stability - and why moving between them changes which issues carry the most structural weightThe Four Structural Systems and how pressure travels between them when one area weakensThe containment disciplines for all twelve issues - not elimination, but the structural work that keeps pressure from spreading70% of small business ownership transfers fail. You've read the small business books. Built the systems. The fires slowed down — but they're not stopping.
The business systems on your bookshelf were designed for companies with shareholders, boards, and management hierarchies your small businesses will never have.
Somewhere along the way these got handed to the business owner standing next to his front-line employees every morning and were presented as the answer.
Some of them help. But none of them were built for you.
Peter S. Bergeron has spent fifty years inside the pressure cooker of small business. His journey began at 4 years old in his dad's shop, who had Peter’s mom tell him he might want to find work outside the family business at 14. Moving through manufacturing, distribution, and professional services at different firms, Bergeron returned to work for his dad 14 years later.
When his father passed unexpectedly in 2019, Peter was at work the next morning — because that's what a small business demands from its Trapped Operator. On January 13, 2020, Peter was forced to close the doors on that same business.
In the years that followed, working in several different small businesses, he reflected on how in every one of those experiences he saw the same structural pressure wearing different names. Same fires. Different owners. Same pressure. And no framework built to explain why.
The Trapped Operator introduces the 12 Fatal Issues Framework™ — grounded in doctoral research, built around the owner at its center. Without it, every new system you install only fixes symptoms while the underlying disease keeps compounding.
Inside The Trapped Operator, you'll discover:
Any framework that promises to eliminate all problems is lying to you. Small businesses are living organisms, run by humans carrying the weight of every name on that payroll. The goal isn't perfection. It's containment — systems built to restrain issues before they ignite into full blown fires.
70% of small business transfers fail. The 30% who succeed didn't work harder. They were just built with a clearer lens.
Bergeron has been that client, that operator, and the one who had to turn off the lights. He's not selling a corporate template. He's giving you the lens he wished he'd had — built from fifty years of living the truth of small business.
That lens is now yours. Add The Trapped Operator to your cart now.
