"Rana Jawad gives a voice for ordinary Libyans."—The Guardian

"A chilling account of real life through an insurgency."—Paul Kenyon, BBC

Early in 2011 Rana Jawad found herself the last British journalist reporting from inside Tripoli. Defiant and terrified in turns, she went into hiding and bravely issued the series of anonymous Tripoli Witness blogs that became famous for providing rare information from inside the zones controlled by Gaddafi.

The blog is reproduced here with extensive contextualizing essays on the broader picture as well as retrospective analysis. Edited with a foreword by BAFTA award-winning BBC Panorama presenter Paul Kenyon.

Rana Jawad, of British-Lebanese nationality, is married to a Benghazi and resident in Tripoli where she has been reporting for the BBC for seven years.
