German designer Matthias Sauerbruch (born 1955) and British designer Louisa Hutton (born 1957) have asked a diverse group of authors to reflect on the various conditions that have shaped the conception, production and circulation of European architecture over the past 30 years.
While the essays collected in this volume include observations of Sauerbruch Hutton’s buildings, the scope of the authors’ conclusions about European design trends far exceeds the work of this particular agency. The text is supplemented by a photographic essay by Finnish artist Ola Kolehmainen, offering readers an immersive experience of the firm’s most impressive accomplishments.

LOUISA HUTTON and MATTHIAS SAUERBRUCH are founding partners of Sauerbruch Hutton, which is now based in Berlin and operates internationally. They are leading architects of their generation. MATTHIAS SAUERBRUCH has taught at the AA, London, the TU Berlin, and the ABK Stuttgart as well as Harvard GSD and the University of Virginia. He has contributed to juries and conferences worldwide. A founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council, and Director of Architecture at the Akademie der K�nste, Sauerbruch is also an Honorary Fellow of the AIA. LOUISA HUTTON and MATTHIAS SAUERBRUCH are founding partners of Sauerbruch Hutton, which is now based in Berlin and operates internationally. They are leading architects of their generation. LOUISA HUTTON has taught at the AA, London, Harvard GSD and the University of Virginia, and has lectured, chaired and participated in juries and contributed to conferences worldwide. She is an Honorary Fellow of the AIA and a Royal Academician of Arts (London) where she is currently Chair of the Architecture Committee.
