The Unexpected Gift, tells the true-life story of a woman’s journey of self-discovery and renewal after the implosion of her marriage.
Barbara was living a rich and energetic life but was not content to just follow an easy, set path. She wanted to fully engage with the world. In her late twenties, she and her husband left their country, Italy, to delve into the wondrous complexities of life on the other side of the world in China.

After years of shared adventures and partnership and just when she thought her life was about to fully blossom, her husband callously delivered the news that he was leaving the marriage. Nothing explained, no discussion, nothing said, just a decision made. Stunned and blindsided, Barbara had to fully reexamine the life that she thought she had and start anew, alone, in a foreign country, with some doors permanently closed behind her and a new blank canvas in front of her.

This is the healing story that touches the depth of the most excruciating pain and the height of the most graceful love.

This is a journey that many of us go through when we meet with unexpected, traumatic events. It is a brutal and yet beautiful exploration that brave ones have the privilege to respond to embracing a richer and more authentic life, emerging anew after the unthinkable. And, it is a story that serves as a roadmap for others experiencing seismic disruptions in their lives as well as for those dedicated friends and loved ones who are helping them through those difficult times.
