CHAPTER 1
Jean's Mom told her something tonight that made her feel good but yet a little unsure. She told Jean that we all have our own angel and sometimes, more than one. Those angels are sent by Jesus to keep us safe from harm.
"What else do angels do, Mommy?" Jean asked as she cuddled closer to her mother.
"Well, let's see ... Angels praise and glorify God ..."
"What do you mean?" Jean asked interrupting her mom.
"God created angels for all reasons but mostly to guide us, protect us, encourage us and to strengthening us!" Jean's mother said hugging Jean.
Jean's eyes widened, "You mean the angels will make me SO STRONG that I will be able to pick up a car?"
Laughing her mother answered, "No Jean ... not strong in that way but strong in spirit!"
"Oh, so when I am scared or sad, the angels help me?"
"Yes, they will, Jean. The Bible tells us that angels are God's servants. They are sent by Him into the world to serve His will."
"So angels are like gifts?" Jean asked.
"One of the greatest gifts ever! Angels are a blessing and help us to glorify God better."
"Oh wow! Where is my angel now, Mommy?" Jean asked excitingly.
"Jean, your angel walks and stays by your side and watches over you at ALL times."
"Mommy, does my angel go to school with me too?" Jean asked, trying to imagine what her own angel looked like and how that angel was able to be with her all the time!
"Yes, Jean, your angel is here at home with you and in school with you and on the playground. Your special angel goes everywhere you go! Your angel is always there with you."
But doesn't my angel ever take a day off? Jean asked.
Her mom smiled and said with a little giggle, "Maybe, I don't know for sure but God may send more than one angel to be with us."
"But how does the angel know where to find me?" she asked reaching for her mother's hand.
"Angels don't need to find you, honey. God sends them to us because he loves us and wants us to feel safe."
"Why?" Jean asked in a soft voice.
"Because he wants us to love and trust Him and He wants what is best for all his children. Now, it's time to say your prayers and go to sleep sweet Jean!"
"K, Mommy ... will you stay with me ... until I fall asleep?" Jean asked feeling a little scared and not sure about this angel thing.
Jean's mom smiled and touched her hand while she said her prayers out loud.
"Thank you, Jesus for today and every day you give me on this beautiful earth you made for us. Please forgive me my sins and let me follow in the path that you have laid out for me ... and please don't let me be afraid of my angel! Amen."
After she prayed, Jean's mom gently stroked her hair and kissed the top of her head saying, "Jean, there is nothing to fear from angels because they come from God and you know God is good and loving."
"I know, Mommy," Jean said feeling a little better about what her mother had just told her.
Jean's mom sat down on her bed and sang a song that she had sung to her since she was a little baby. Even though Jean was not a baby anymore, she still liked to hear her mom sing it to her.
'Sweet sweet Jean, you are loved and protected under angels' wings. Halos and smiles bring giggles and peace knowing all through time on this earth, angels followed all people even the kings! Beautiful angels loving and kind follow my Jean today and tomorrow, hold her close and feel her love for all the angels here and above. Sweet, sweet Jean, no need to worry, no need to fear, you are loved and protected under angels' wings.'
"Goodnight, my little Jean," her mom said as she leaned over and kissed Jean goodnight.
After she closed Jean's bedroom door, Jean tried to go to sleep but couldn't. She was wondering what her angel looked like! She asked herself, does she look like me? Does she have dark or light hair? Is she tall or short? Does she wear glasses like I sometimes do? Does she have real wings? Is she a girl or a boy? Do I have more than one angel? All these questions kept Jean from falling asleep.
Jean wondered if her angel was the one that brought her cat, Tinker, back yesterday when she ran out the front door. Jean saw her run down the street and she ran inside to tell her mom that Tinker was gone! Her mom told her that they would go look for her but when they opened the front door to start their search there was Tinker sitting on the front porch!
When Jean finally fell asleep, she dreamed of angels. The angels she saw in her dream were wearing long white gowns with pink halos over their heads and they had big green wings! So she couldn't tell if they were boy or girl angels but they were all happy and smiling when they flew around her! Jean was having so much fun with them she didn't want to wake up from the dream!
When Jean walked to school the next day, she kept looking over her shoulder for angels. She didn't see any on her way. She didn't notice the car crossing the street as she stepped off the curb. The car came screeching to a halt just in the nick of time when her little body was lifted to safety. She couldn't remember jumping back onto the curb but she was glad she was safe! Jean was still looking for her angel when she got to school but he or she was nowhere to be found.
