Second American edition (first issued the same year in New York; first published London, 1801). Thick 8vo. Two volumes bound as one: (6), viii, cxxvi, 113, (1); 115-392 pp. Large folding map; with the half title to volume one. SABIN 43415. HOWES M-133: "First crossing of the continent from ocean to ocean by a white man. The narrative portion was prepared for publication by William Combe from Mackenzie's notes. The account of the fur trade, the first ever published, is attributed to Roderick Mackenzie." Wagner-Camp-Becker 1:5 (after describing a one volume edition collating as here, "Copies of this edition exist bound in two volumes, each with a title page, and carrying three maps [as in the London edition]"). American Imprints 2569. Several separations at map folds, else very good. 19th-century black half-calf and marbled boards, endpapers and edges, rebacked with the original spine panel laid down, gilt title, ornaments, and rules between raised bands.
