Paperback. "Victoria and Albert Museum: Catalogue of the Jones Collection Part III Paintings and Miniatures" is a comprehensive scholarly record documenting one of the most significant private bequests in the history of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Prepared by the renowned art historian Basil S. Long, this volume provides a meticulous inventory and analysis of the paintings and portrait miniatures collected by John Jones, a prominent Victorian connoisseur. The collection is particularly esteemed for its exceptional holdings of 18th-century French art and its delicate portrait miniatures, which offer a profound look into the aesthetic preferences and social history of the era. Each entry in the catalogue contains detailed information regarding the artists, the subjects, and the provenance of the works, making it an essential resource for researchers, collectors, and students of European art history.By highlighting the artistic merits of individual pieces while framing them within the context of the broader Jones bequest, this work emphasizes the vital role of private patronage in the formation of public museum collections. It remains a foundational reference for understanding the intersection of connoisseurship and museum curation, providing lasting insight into the treasures housed within one of the world's leading institutions of art and design. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
