Aggiungere al carrello1994 inscribed and signed first edition, Ann Am Printing / V. Nguyen (Los Angeles, California), 7 3/4 x 7 5/8 inches tall paperbound, largely color photographs of the artist's works, with captions on the facing pages, [24] pp. Very slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Nicely inscribed and signed by the artist in the year of issue on the verso of the front cover. Otherwise, apart from a couple of instances of very slight marginal soiling, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce portfolio. ~F~ In English. Los Angeles Artist Viet Nguyen was born in 1952 in Saigon, Vietnam, where he studied painting and sculpture at the National School of Fine Arts. After arriving in California in 1975, he continued to study art and to develop his printmaking style at local community colleges and the University of California, Los Angeles. Nguyen calls his unique method of art 'Sculptetching with cast paper.' In it, elements of etching, embossing, monoprint and sculpture are all employed to result in work that is textural, fibrous and three-dimensional. The demands of the method are so great that the artist not only must make his own paper, but had to also create a press capable of producing these works. The base surface of the sculpted papers are as rich and dense as a mixograph, a technique employed by the Mexican master Tamayo, as well as contemporary American artists such as Frankenthaler and Laddie John Dill. Even further, some key images are raised above the surface. The result is not only a work that merges the power of etching with the physical presence of sculpture, but also a juxtaposition of imagery and perspective.
