The Vizsla’s story begins centuries ago on the vast plains of Central Europe, where Hungarian tribes known as the Magyars roamed. As far back as the 10th century, evidence of Vizsla-type dogs appears in Hungarian art, engravings, and literature. However, the breed faced near extinction during the turbulent times of the 20th century. After World War I and again after World War II, Hungary was left ravaged by war, and with resources scarce, breeding programs all but disappeared. During the Communist era, many noble families were persecuted, and with them went the dogs they cherished. But thanks to a handful of determined breeders who smuggled dogs out of Hungary, the Vizsla survived. In the 1950s, small breeding populations were established in other countries, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In 1960, the American Kennel Club (AKC) officially recognized the Vizsla, cementing its place not just in history, but in modern dog-loving culture. Since then, the breed has earned admiration not only for its hunting prowess, but also for its deeply affectionate personality — a dog that doesn’t just work alongside humans but bonds with them on an emotional level.

Effetti del recesso
