Improving students' vocabularies requires constant focus on exploring new words and the patterns of language. Lessons must go beyond just learning definitions: they must engage students in deeper explorations of words. Research-based evidence supports the use of teaching to the multiple ways that students learn and retain information. Vocabulary Unplugged guides K-12 teachers through a variety of hands-on, interactive lessons that assist students in not just knowing words, but owning them.Teachers will use music to explore words; play with words to engage learning; use movement to enhance vocabulary study and retention; harness the power of poetry to build word knowledge; explore patterns to create dynamic vocabulary lessons, and much more.
