Riassunto: This very insightful book devotes a chapter to each of several service oriented architecture (SOA) and web service-related technologies. For each chapter, an overview is given along with the strengths, weaknesses, alternatives and common mistakes for that technology. For example, there are chapters devoted to SOAs, Web Services, Enterprise Service Buses, BPEL, Governance, .Net, J2EE, Message Oriented Middleware, XML, REST and ROA, SOAP, WSRP and WSDL. There are also chapters on a number of other related technologies like HTTP, PHP, XML Schemas, HTML and horizontal and vertical scaling - each chapter emphasizing common mistakes that bring down SOA projects. The book is chalked full of useful insights and pitfalls to avoid, but what makes the presentation truly unique is that each topic is presented in an engaging and humorous manner. Genuinely funny footnotes permeate the text and sarcastic cartoons that make a point about each technology cause very boring topics to become palatable. If you're a project manager or software architect who can't name three ways technologies like... say... web services or XML threatens projects then you should buy this book. It's also a good book to read to have something intelligent to say about popular technologies during job interviews and you'll have a few chuckles while gaining those insights.
L'autore: Glenn Hostetler co-founded a Denver-based consulting company that specializes in software development for large scale systems. He has provided project management, business analysis, and software integration expertise since the inception of that company. Glenn has written two books and several IBM white papers on service oriented architectures, web services, and related technologies. He has acted as IBM's liaison to Oracle ERP customers who wished to integrate their various software systems using IBM and Oracle middleware products (usually with web services, queues, ESBs, Java Connectors, and BPEL). He also authored the book ''Moderately Difficult, Likely-to-occur, Precisely Written and Thoroughly Explained PMP Exam Questions'' (the PMP Exam is a certification test for project managers). His strong technical background gives him a deep understanding of service oriented architectures, while his business background keeps those perspectives grounded in realism.
Sandor Hasznos is a Director of Service Oriented Architecture Development at IBM. He authored the IBM Redbook ''The Software Development Mystery Solved'', which documents a proven methodology for large software deployments. He has a seat on IBM's Architecture Review Board, which establishes the software architecture methods and practices for implementing enterprise systems for IBM customers. He is a winner of the IBM Technology Excellence Award and the Hughes Aircraft Innovation Award.
