Sheldon (Shelly) Goldner grew up on the West Side of Chicago in an area called Austin, where life was simple and a quarter bought a hot dog, fries, and a drink at Carl’s. High school was rough, but college turned things around when he was given a probationary shot at junior college. He rose to the challenge, earned his bachelor’s degree, and spent three years in law school before being drafted into the Army for four years.
After losing interest in law, Shelly joined his ex-father-in-law’s seafood business “just for a few months,” which turned into 13 years of wild ups and downs. Eventually, he started his own business with little more than an idea and no money. That leap began the unpredictable ride that inspired Isn’t That Weird!—a book filled with wacky, wonderful, and tear-jerking lessons learned along the way.
