The Addiction Wasn't the Problem. It Was the Solution. Until It Wasn't

What if addiction was never the problem?

What if it was the solution that kept you alive?

In Why You Used, Aaron Kershaw challenges everything you thought you knew about addiction. Instead of labeling it as weakness, failure, or lack of discipline, this book reveals the truth most recovery models ignore.

Addiction is a survival strategy.

Built from lived experience, trauma-informed insight, and real-world application, this first book in the Used to Survive series helps you understand the root of your behavior without shame, without judgment, and without empty promises.

Inside, you will discover how to understand why you used in the first place recognize addiction as adaptation, not identity break the cycles of shame, cravings, and relapse rebuild emotional awareness and control develop practical tools that work in real life, not just in theory

Through powerful storytelling, clinical perspective, and body-based insight, this book bridges the gap between lived experience and recovery science. It speaks directly to those who have struggled, those still struggling, and those trying to understand someone they love.

This is not an anti-drug message.

This is an anti-shame message.

Because when you understand why you used, everything changes.

You were surviving.

Now you get to rebuild.
