This UK author transforms a classic craft into an art form that expresses contemporary style. This title examines the methods for burning tribal and celtic designs, animal prints like zebra and leopard, as well as delicate floral and leaf motifs. It includes photos of the author's gorgeous work that are enough to make anyone want to try their hand at this surprisingly easy craft. Simon Easton's brand of woodburning is hip, edgy, modern. He's transformed a classic craft into an art form that expresses contemporary style. The beautifully-photographed guide teaches readers how to draw with fire - otherwise known as pyrography, or woodburning. They'll learn how to make basic marks, like wavy lines and dots and how shading and repetition creates richly textured patterns. Easton calls his creations 'wood tattoos,' because each finished piece has a distinctive story to tell. The end result is the kind of decorative items you'd be proud to display on a mantel, hang on a wall, or give as a personalised gift. Projects include funky bangle bracelets, a beautiful wall clock and a decorated plate, as well as coasters, key rings, a door sign and more.…

Informazioni sull’autore
Simon Easton is a pyrographer, wood turner, silversmith, and pewter artist. His pewter napkin ring set was one of the Manchester Metropolitan University winners of the Pewter Live competition and was displayed at Pewterers' Hall in London. He is the recipient of a Precious Metals Bursary and a grant from the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. In recent years his love of all things wood has led him to the art of pyrography, which he uses with a contemporary twist to create richly decorative items and gifts. He is an active member of the UK Crafts Forum, where he assists in passing on tips and advice to all craftspeople, and has his own website (www.woodtattoos.co.uk), as well as a site on etsy.com.
Simon Easton studied a BA (Hons) degree at Manchester Metropolitan University where he studied woodturning, silversmithing and pewterware. His pewter napkin ring set was one of the MMU winners of the Pewter Live 1999 competition, and was displayed at Pewterers' Hall in London. He has won both a Precious Metals Bursary and a Grant from the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in order to produce design concepts that he had developed. The common theme in Simon's work was a decorative and textural feel, often rich in embellishment or pattern.
