[Same date & publisher] +241-479pp +[16pp =index] The title continues "from the year sixty five, to this time. To which is added, a new essay upon all sorts of learning; wherein the use of the sciences is distinctly treated on." Subjects include works of Usher and Grotius, Wheeler's travels {Greece, Levant] chardin's Persia, travels to East Indies etc., new scientific papers, extracts from journals etc. The newest book by Hook, Micrographia, discusses experiments shown at the Royal Academy of Sciences on freezing, Mr.Boyle's work on air and Edmond Halley's on water vapours are all new discoveries. Following the second titlepage a section deals with the Hebrew written language and further with the various editions of the Bible, criticisms, Locke & Des Cartes Philosophy and much else. Music of a French version of the CLth Psalm with treble and bass musical accompaniment take up a full page. The final part of the book has a series of "Curious Miscellanies" such as extraordinary Lives of Saints, speeches, a Treatise of Witches, A History of Animals, the Inquisition etc. Some pagination errors with for example page numbers 288 & 289 are used twice. The signatures are in 2's throughout but the alphabet used only goes from a to u up to 6u + the index 7a to 7d. The frontis has been mounted with some loss at the gutter edge, the titlepage and the following two leaves are remargined which however does not affect any print. There is a tidemark up to page 6 and also to certain later sections of the book. There are also areas of foxing and others with browning and a few small holes affecting one or two letters of the text and one leaf [p331/2] with a paper fault across 5 lines each missing no more than a few letters. Endpapers have a small ownership stamp "Pro Christo et Patria Dulce Particulum" surrounding a Unicorn's head and initials RHK below the unicorn. All pages are well attached and supple, quite readable. A fascinating early account of important books thought important for students at Oxford & Cambridge. 1 volume.
