Matthew Carden writes mythic, psychological fantasy shaped by a lifetime of service, study, and contemplative practice. He spent eight years in Japan, where he was introduced to Buddhism and mindfulness meditation—traditions that continue to inform the emotional architecture of his work. After returning to the United States, he earned his black belt in Kuk Sool Won and continued his study of Tai Chi Chuan, deepening his understanding of discipline, embodiment, and the quiet intelligence of movement.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Matthew went on to spend two decades in the private sector and federal service, ultimately retiring from the FDA. Across these roles, he practiced servant leadership in senior positions, guided by a commitment to clarity, empathy, and social responsibility. He holds degrees in Human Services and Education, along with an international certification in mindfulness.
Matthew is the founder of Magnolia Pathways LLC, where he teaches trauma‑sensitive mindfulness and supports intentional personal transformation. He is also preparing to launch a Great Dane Rescue and Relocation initiative, reflecting his lifelong dedication to compassionate service and animal welfare.
His Seamwrights Series blends dark fantasy, psychological tension, and political intrigue, exploring how language, memory, and power shape the worlds we inhabit—and the ones we create.
He lives in Tennessee with his family and four dogs.
