SIGNED. A very attractive four-volume set of books written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, in a card slipcase titled Nutshell Library. The four are: Alligators All Around, An Alphabet; Chicken Soup with Rice, A Book of Months; One Was Johnny, A Counting Book; and Pierre, A Cautionary Tale in Five Chapters and a Prologue. Each volume: hardcover, bound in decorated red cloth, in dust jacket; 32 - 48 pages; color illustrations throughout; 6.8 x 9.4 cm. All are Fine in a Fine dj; they appear as new. Illustrated paper-bound card slipcase; 7 x 10.2 x 4 cm. Fine with a hint of rubbing to the extremities. The slipcase has been SIGNED BY SENDAK to one side and inscribed "For Scott" to the opposite side. A later edition with ISBN numbers. Books ship the next business day, wrapped in padding, in a box. Maurice Sendak’s books have sold over 50 million copies and have been translated into more than 40 languages. He received the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are and is the creator of such classics as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, Higglety Pigglety Pop!, and Nutshell Library. In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration, in 1983 he received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, and in 1996 he received a National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America. In 2003 Sendak received the first Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, an annual international prize for children’s literature established by the Swedish government.
