No one, especially seven carefree, college-age young women, expect to die now, tonight. Tonight, at a party, in a closed restaurant, many of them will meet their fate. Record companies were spending millions of dollars manufacturing and promoting the now widely used, and preferred 8 track tape. The diversity offered in the 8 track, made it the hip new way, to… take your music 'on the go' with you. The Automobile Industry mass produced the 8 track tape player for most modern cars of the time. The new king of the music media format, stepped to the front of national and international sales. Some smart and inventive entrepreneurs, found a way to take advantage of this new found craze. Thus ushered in a time for the small but short lived 'Bootleg 8-Track Tape Industry'. 'Tape Pirates' maneuvered their way around buying the fully licensed product. Mass produced from copies of the originally licensed recordings, 'bootlegs' were sold across the nation. The record industry started a witch hunt for those responsible. By law, bootlegging was considered stealing and illegal.Across the nation, hundreds of 'bootleg' sellers made millions from this now booming illegal market. In Philadelphia. two men navigated their way through the turbulent society of an already crazy 1974. This is 'Song For America'--------------------------------------------------'Song For America' a character driven, 70's period piece story, that weaves in the setting of Philadelphia, a very recent return from Vietnam, Tricky Dick's antics, a government official, and Mexican Drug Lord, and his beautiful second. Somehow, everyone always thought rock n roll crimes, were just no big deal.The Bootleggers in Philly are in for a surprise! 'Song' was born out of a Cannabis induced late night coma, when my friend Author Chaz Climchszk said to me . 'Hey Jimmy, you should write a screenplay about some guys, selling 8-Track Tapes in the 70s.' So from the nucleus of that idea from Chaz, Was born 1 of my 70's Opus'! After a few years, and many more cannabis induced comas.This is. Song For America! Even though I know, this is a screenplay, and I know that the music I quote in this screenplay, would normally require the rights. I wanted to convey the real feel of normal people, listening to and discussing music in 1974. I really hope you enjoy SFA, and if you could imagine a feel to what the script would relay to.
