8vo. 2¾ pp. on 2 ff. In German. To the ophthalmologist, occultist and writer Rudolf Tischner (1879-1961), discussing Théodore Flournoy's book "Esprits et Médiums" (1911) and Rilke's own interest in psychoscopy, which (he is glad to say) is no longer referred to as "psychometry", due to Tischner's efforts: "Alle diese Abende habe ich über dem Buch Flournoy's zugebracht ('Esprits et Médiums') - es ist verdrießlich, das Ergebnis jener Enquete zu lesen, in der sich eben so wenig 'Erleben' und 'Natur' ausspricht, sondern immer schon der Erscheinung Entgegengebrachtes, ja Aufgedrängtes. Ich gestehe, daß mich, au bout de compte, im Augenblick die Begebenheiten der Psychoskopie (Gottseidank, daß wir die 'metrie' los sind, dank Ihrer Einführung!) am Meisten interessieren würden: es war ja auch dieses Gebiet, auf dem ich Merkwürdigstes - seinerzeit - miterleben durfte! [.]". - Wishing to escape the post-war turmoil and to resume his long-interrupted work on the "Duino Elegies", Rilke travelled from Munich to Switzerland in June 1919, where he met Nanny Wunderly-Volkart (1878-1962), a member of the Winterthur-based business family, who supported him financially until his death and provided him with pleasant lodgings and the service he desired. After a sojourn of almost two years Soglio, Locarno, and Berg am Irchel, Rilke found a permanent home in the summer of 1921 in the Château de Muzot, a villa above Sierre in the canton of Valais. - Some occasional slight spotting and small marginal tears, otherwise well preserved.
