Aggiungere al carrelloHolmes, Urban Tigner / Schutz, Alexander Herman. A history of the French language. Columbus, Ohio: H. L. Hedrick, 254 E. Oakland Avenue, 1935, 1935, 196pp., worn and wobbly blue cloth, a few minor pencil notations in text, previous owner's name: Kathryn Elizabeth Higgins, 203 Smith Dormitory. Full publication by Farrar and Rinehart was in 1938 but this edition in a mimeographed reproduced typescript print seems to have been published repeatedly in the 1930s for use in college courses. Designed as an introductory manual for juniors and seniors, as Holmes noted in his dispute with Mario Pei over the book. But "an extraordinarily successful condensation of this complex subject" according to Gifford P. Owen (1939), it was followed in 1940 by a 122pp. Source book of illustrative texts.
