Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

Green printed paper map 109x85cm. Fair only, quite intensively used, loosely folded with short tears, minor loss, some staining, and a dense network of very neatly drawn pilot's route lines with multiple small ms annotations. Compiled and drawn by Ordnance Survey 1955 from numerous GSGS and USAF / WAC sheets dated 1946-52, printed for the Directorate of Military Survey (War Office and Air Ministry) by Ordnance Survey, 1956. The map dates to several events that would have involved the RAF in reconnaissance, policing and military support roles across the Arabian Peninsula, including the surge in nationalism in the Aden Protectorate and Yemen triggered by Nasser and the Suez Crisis, the ongoing Jebel Akhdar War in Muscat and Oman, the aftermath of the Buraimi Dispute following Britain's seizure of the Oasis in late 1955, the Ikhwan Raid in Kuwait, and the ongoing need to protect oil installations, exploration activities, undefined border areas, etc. Centred on the Trucial States and Oman, coverage is bounded by Habbaniya and Samarra in Iraq (NW), Jalalabad and Peshawar (NE), open Indian Ocean (SE), and Mocha and Aden (SW). Details include spot elevations (the highest is flagged at 16872 feet), lighthouses and lightships, towns of first and second importance, international boundaries, lines of equal magnetic variation, directions of annual movement of isogonals and distance in nautical miles, and fathom lines. Other information to the margins include conversion angles, Georef instructions, an elevations reliability diagram, conversions table, and sheet history. The pilot's routes drawn primarily in pencil include several from Aden, Riyan, Salalah, Masirah Island and Ad Dawhah (Doha) to several ms labelled locations in the interior of the Aden Protectorate, and from Muharraq (Bahrain), Kuwait and Ahmadi in the Gulf including to Sharjah.
