Roosevelt, The White House, 1935, and with his notat. 18mo. Contemporary full dark green straight grain sheep, spine neatly rebacked. Corners a bit worn. 16 pages. Engraved frontispiece plate and folding engraved map with hand outline color. Map expertly repaired along verso folds with archival tissue. Signed ownership inscription to front pastedown endpaper: "Franklin D. Roosevelt / The White House / 1935 / Very rare." Small printed label on inside front cover: "Library of Franklin D. Roosevelt. No. 1283," the number written in pen-and-ink. From the Library of Franklin D. RooseveltRare first edition of Disturnell's Hudson River Guide, with Franklin D. Roosevelt's dated ownership inscription: Franklin D. Roosevelt, The White House, 1935, and with his notation very rare. This Hudson River Guide of 1835 is among the earliest of Disturnell's guidebook publications. The engraved frontispiece shows the Battery & Castle Garden at the southern tip of Manhattan. The detailed colored folding map is also dated 1835 (with 1834 copyright). In addition to the present 1835 first edition, OCLC records a 1839 version, and other later editions were likely issued.FDR's Hudson Valley AssociationFranklin D. Roosevelt s ownership of this 1835 Hudson River guide represents an especially resonant association, uniting his antiquarian interests with the landscape at the center of his personal identity. Born at Springwood in Hyde Park, Roosevelt grew up overlooking, sailing, and ice-boating on the river, while his Delano ancestry connected him to the region s maritime and mercantile traditions. The Hudson Valley remained his lifelong refuge and the setting for his conservation work, presidential library, and final resting place. As a collector of Hudson River history, naval art, ship models, and maritime manuscripts, he would have valued the guide both as a rare historical artifact and as a record of the river and surrounding country closest to his heart. His decision to build the nation s first presidential library on the family estate further reveals how closely he connected his public legacy with Hyde Park. He collected manuscripts relating to Dutchess County and Hudson Valley history, preserved Springwood for the American people, and chose to be buried in its rose garden. For Roosevelt, the Hudson Valley represented continuity, family, historical rootedness, and restorative contact with the land a place to which, as he once expressed it, everything within him longed to return.FDR and the White House LibraryThe modern White House Library had its origins in FDR's 1935 installation of his personal library in the White House. Roosevelt formally designated a ground-floor room for that purpose and used it as his personal library. The White House Library did not fully come into its own, however, until Jacqueline Kennedy s restoration of the White House, when a formally curated collection of books was installed. After refurbishing the space, she enlisted James T. Babb, the Yale University Librarian, to lead a committee in preparing an authoritative list of works in American history, literature, and philosophy. Babb described it as a library that "is intended to contain books which best represent the history and culture of the United States, works most essential for an understanding of our national experience" - The White House Library: A Short-Title List (1967), p. 5. Il periodo di recesso scade dopo 14 giorni dal giorno in cui tu o una terza parte, diversa dal vettore e da te indicata, acquisisce il possesso fisico dell'ultimo bene o dell'ultimo lotto o pezzo.
Per esercitare il diritto di recesso, compila e invia elettronicamente una dichiarazione esplicita sul nostro sito Web, alla voce “I miei acquisti” nella sezione “Mio account”. Ti comunicheremo senza indugio una conferma di ricezione di tale recesso su un supporto durevole (ad es. via e-mail).
Per rispettare il termine di recesso, è sufficiente inviare la comunicazione relativa all'esercizio del diritto di recesso prima della scadenza del periodo di recesso stesso.
Effetti del recesso
In caso di recesso dal presente contratto, ti rimborseremo tutti i pagamenti ricevuti, compresi i costi di spedizione (ad eccezione dei costi supplementari derivanti dalla tua eventuale scelta di un tipo di spedizione diverso dal tipo meno costoso di consegna standard da noi offerto).
Potremo effettuare una detrazione dal rimborso per la perdita di valore dei beni forniti, qualora tale perdita sia il risultato di una manipolazione non necessaria da parte tua.
Eseguiremo il rimborso senza indebito ritardo e non oltre 14 giorni dal giorno in cui saremo informati della tua decisione di recedere dal presente contratto.
Il rimborso sarà effettuato utilizzando lo stesso mezzo di pagamento da te usato per la transazione iniziale, salvo che tu non abbia espressamente concordato altrimenti; in ogni caso, non dovrai sostenere alcun costo quale conseguenza di tale rimborso.

Il termine è rispettato se rispedisci i beni prima della scadenza del periodo di 14 giorni. I costi diretti della restituzione dei beni saranno a tuo carico. Sei responsabile solo della diminuzione del valore dei beni risultante da una manipolazione diversa da quella necessaria per stabilire la natura, le caratteristiche e il funzionamento dei beni stessi.

We ship packages worldwide, using Federal Express, DHL, UPS and the US Postal Service (USPS). Orders received during before 3 p.m. Pacific Time on days when the gallery is open are typically shipped the same day. All other orders are typically shipped the next business day. When you order an item, you will receive an auto-generated confirmation email, confirming that your order has been processed by our email server. We will follow up with written confirmation that your order is in stock and has been shipped. Feel free to email or phone us if you have other questions.
While we make our best efforts to insure timely delivery of your packages, even the best courier services do not have perfect track records. Holidays and inclement weather can result in unforeseen delays. If you are purchasing an item for a gift or you otherwise have a specific deadline, please specify this information on your order form and use a shipping method that allows a safe time cushion for receipt of your order.
We have several shipping methods, depending upon the item. Maps are typically shipped either flat (encapsulated in Mylar and bound between multiple sheets of packing boards) or in custom thick core packing tubes. If you have a preference, please feel free to include this information when processing your order.
Shipping Insurance will be added to all items over $200.00. Insurance is typically billed at $0.05 per $100.00 (e.g., insurance for a $1000.00 map would be $5.00).
