Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

A first edition, first printing of History Through the Opera Glass: From the Rise of Caesar to the Fall of Napoleon by renowned opera historian and critic George Jellinek, warmly inscribed and signed by the author. This copy is in Fine condition, with a tight, square binding, clean pages, and virtually no signs of handling. The original dust jacket is in Near Fine condition, remaining bright and attractive with only the lightest evidence of shelf wear. The jacket is protected in a clear archival Mylar cover and will be shipped with the protector in place. Published by Pro/Am Music Resources in 1994, this engaging work examines more than two thousand years of world history as reflected through nearly two hundred operas by many of history's greatest composers and librettists. Moving from Julius Caesar and Cleopatra through Charlemagne, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great, and Napoleon, Jellinek explores how historical events and personalities have been interpreted on the operatic stage. This copy is personally inscribed by George Jellinek on the front free endpaper: "For Carol, remembering old times with pleasure and all good wishes, affectionately, George, 4-24-94." The warm, personal inscription lends the book additional character beyond a standard author signature and makes it especially appealing to collectors of opera, music history, and signed books. A handsome collectible combining a Fine first edition, first printing, a Near Fine original dust jacket, and a thoughtful personal inscription from one of the twentieth century's most respected authorities on opera.…
