Stated first printing of the first edition. Here are the first two volumes of a four volume series. These two volumes on offer concern prose syntax rather than poetic syntax. Vol. 3, Early Greek Poetic and Herodotean Syntax, was published in 2002 and Vol. 4, Early Greek Poetic and Herodotean Syntax, in 2004. Printed on acid free paper. ISBNs 0472108433 and 0472108441. Approx. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. Navy blue buckram hardboards, with red blazes and crisp gilt-stamped titling to the front boards and the spines. Unbumped spine heads and tails, and unbumped corners. Very clean bindings. Text blocks firmly bound in and tight. With 867 and 868-1875 numbered pages on heavy-duty coated stock. All pages appear clean and crisp. Primary text in Greek and English. No dust jackets, as issued. A set of two Very Good Plus to Near Fine volumes. Very gently read. Vol. 2 is especially scarce in any condition. 6 lbs. 8 oz. From the library of Raffaella Cribiore [1948-2023], professor of Classics at New York University. She specialized in papyrology, ancient education, ancient Greek rhetoric and the Second Sophistic. The language of classical Greek literature has been extensively studied since the Renaissance, and the most generally admired approach to Greek grammar and syntax has long been K. W. Krüger's Griechische Sprachlehre. In this translation Guy L. Cooper III accepts Krüger's simple and transparent organization, but greatly expands the substance of the earlier work by increasing the total number of citations from the original texts. Research since 1875, especially the contributions of Basil Lanneau Gildersleeve, is incorporated so as to create a reference work, in English, which covers the full range of this complex subject. Guy L. Cooper III [b. 1930] was Professor Emeritus of Classics, University of North Carolina at Asheville, and most widely recognized for his monumental work in translating and vastly expanding the syntactic analyses of German scholar Karl Wilhelm Krüger into English.…

Krüger's original paragraph numbering has been maintained so that references in previously published works can be followed directly in the new work. However, every paragraph and chapter has been revised and expanded, opening up new subheadings within Krüger's format. The English has moved away from Krüger's laconic style to a more flowing, readable presentation, without jargon and unexplained technical language. A complete index of passages cited and the impressive number of citations make the work a running syntactic commentary on the whole range of Attic prose literature. The net result is a new comprehensive reference work, an essential reference for libraries and personal collections alike.
Guy L. Cooper III is Professor Emeritus of Classics, University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Welcome to the books platform of Marc Sena Carrel. I operated a professional book business between 2003 and 2017 in the San Francisco Bay Area, including via AbeBooks, and I am now a private party selling off fine books from my personal collection. I carry a choice selection of books, prints and ephemera for the discriminating customer. I focus on scholarly and antiquarian books, with a special emphasis on art books. From time to time I also offer original prints, including but not limited to antique Japanese ukiyo-e prints. Additionally I go in for occasional ephemera. Currently on offer via Abebooks are select titles. My selection is more eclectic and off the beaten path than mainstream and predictable. Please e-mail me at marcsenacarrel@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns. I will be happy to be of service. Thank you.…

We wrap and package very carefully and we ship promptly, usually within 1 business day of a paid order. USPS Media Mail usually includes a tracking number. Priority Mail always includes a tracking number. International rates to be determined at time of sale depending on weight and destination; we will contact you regarding shipping costs. We regret the recent substantial and unfriendly increase in rates by USPS for international parcels. Generally speaking, our default shipping fees are set somewhat conservatively.
