1992 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Bicester Military Railway in Oxfordshire. Although it is the busiest standard gauge military railway system in the country and has nearly 50 miles of track, it remains almost unknown to most railway enthusiasts. Opened in 1942, the BMR combined the responsibilities of a frequent passenger service, intensive freight trains, busy marshalling yards and an extensive locomotive workshop.
